Moorea – A Nature Documentary with Whales, Turtles and Anemonefish
We’re pretty much living at Moorea this winter on our sailboat. Moorea is a fantastic little green speck in the south pacific. We’ve enjoyed settling in for awhile and feeling a sense of home and familiarity. It’s nice to have that sometimes when you’re a nomad. Now that we’ve found the best dive sites, with the most adorable anemonefish communities, why would we want to leave?
Today is summer solstice in our hemisphere. The tropical sun is intense, and walking around on top of the boat mid-day burns my feet. The weather is hot and humid, and it rains frequently. But there is nowhere else I would rather be, diving with sea creatures and filming them living their daily lives.
Summer in French Polynesia also means dealing with the cyclone season. We have to watch the weather carefully and run for safety if a cyclone develops.
The hot weather and chance of cyclones are the challenges we face here in the south pacific. But the anchorages are quiet with few boats around, and I get to spend an entire year working on Magic Ocean Media. I am loving it.
Happy Solstice! Please leave a comment about whether you are experiencing winter or summer solstice today, and how you feel about it.
